The Client
An ongoing personal project featuring urban landscapes.
The Assignment
Capture botanicals in a city setting with an emphasis on shape, form and texture.
The Execution
“To capture the delicate nature of dandelions, I brought some specimens back to the studio for special treatment. Using a flat bed scanner, I made several ‘camera-less’ exposures so I could control the placement of each seed head to create the illusion of these hair-like parachutes leaving the head of the flower. The detail of the image was increased by raising resolution settings within the scanner’s optical limits only– and not going higher where pixel interpolation could cause loss of sharpness and introduce artifacts.”
Post Production
“Very little was done to the image once in Photoshop other than cleaning a few stray seed fragments, along with some basic color correction, tone mapping and ‘High Pass’ sharpening.”
The Output
“For my exhibition prints I use Aurora Natural. There is a word for Aurora Natural inkjet paper: luxurious. The luminescent quality of my images when printed on this paper is rich and vibrant. Aurora Art Natural is able to hold a great deal of ink without the image becoming muddy or losing edge sharpness. The paper’s dependability to hold detail over a wide tonality range, and maintain color luminance within a single image and throughout the production of a portfolio makes it the paper of choice for the discerning photographic artist.”
