The Client
Bentley House Publishing, a fine arts publisher of greeting cards.
The Assignment
Shoot a series of still life images using fruits and flowers to be used in greeting cards and journals. All should have a feeling of softness, such as created by natural light, and a muted color palette.
The Execution
"I frequently use light from an Eastward-facing window because it gives me a variety of effects ranging from strong sunlight and shadows the morning to softer, more even light in the afternoon. This image was made with a Canon Digital Rebel camera set to automatic exposure."
Post Production
"Not much adjustment was needed in post production. Nik Color Efex was used to add the glowing effect and Photoshop's Shadow/Highlight filter was used to reduce the shadow areas."
The Output
"Using an Epson Stylus Photo 7600 printer, I output the image on Red River's UltraPro Satin, Premium Matte Plus, and Aurora Art. I rarely use glossy paper, preferring to obtain a painterly feel but, to my surprise, the image printed on UltraPro Gloss jumped out at me. I could feel the peach fuzz and wanted to take a juicy bite. I used Epson paper profiles which gave perfect results."
